Bagnoli is the largest of the neighborhoods of Naples and is an integral part of the Campi Flegrei, whose volcanic activity has marked the boundaries and the entire geomorphological structure of the site.

The neighborhood developed around the large steelworks settlement which changed its shape and made it anomalous compared to the rest of the city.

The industrial area, called Ilva then Italsider, was abandoned in 1992.

Built to take advantage of the special law of 1904, which provided benefits for the economically depressed areas of the country, it went into production in 1910, employing around 1200 workers.

Already home to some plants in the second half of the 19th century, in 1905 it stood out on an initial area of 120 hectares until it occupied 200 hectares in 1977 and had almost 8,000 employees.

The numerous anthropic transformations have affected the functional aspect of original continuity of the area, also profoundly altering the landscape.

A redevelopment and recovery plan has been envisaged since 2005, but to date only a minimal part has been implemented.

In this environment, wooden boards nailed to the wall, metal frames and exposed pipes become a gateway to other dimensions.

The authors' gesture overturns the visual codes, formulating an alternative imagery in which the degradation of abandonment changes into the horizon of other worlds.

The Trentatré fanzine documents the different areas of the city of Naples with the ambition of weaving a path for the physical and cultural reappropriation of the territory and making a mapping that allows the potential of the places to be highlighted.

Bagnoli is the first area of interest identified.
